| On Saturaday, June 12th 2004, I graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science(orange tassel), and Bachelors of Business Administration in Management(tan tassel) and a minor in Philosophy(tassel with no discrete qualia). This is the bicentennial for O.U. and there was much to do about it. All members of the graduating class wore a medal overtop of their robes.
Our commencement speaker was famed historical biographer David McCullough. While many students, myself included, were eager for his speech to be over, his advice was poignant; Read. Read all your life. Always be hungry for knowledge about our past so that we can be prepared for our future. The ceremony included all the appropriate parts, including a sales call by the director of alumni relations, conferral of honorary degrees, spotlighting outstanding students, and of course the O.U. Alma Mater, to which the lyrics were conveniently written in the program. The degrees were conferred in one swoop, which makes for a very exciting moment when two thousand students move their tassel from right to left. A shake of the hand and I was out of there. Friends and family in attendance went to see the computer lab that I had spent so much time in. After there was a small gathering in Lancaster. The food and company was fantastic. A big thanks to my uncle Peter, auntie Liz, and to my aunt Mary for preparing such a wonderful spread, to Jeni and Charlie for the ice cream which I'm still eating, to all of the family friends who came by to congratulate me, and of course no amount of thanks will suffice for my mother Kay. |
